Custom Built-In Quad Bunk Beds (2 sets / 8 beds total)
Inspired by old English box beds, these elegant Twin XL bunks are the signature feature of the communal sleeping quarters at Makerspace Hideout. All the nostalgia of childhood sleep-away camp, with a sophisticated and mature twist. Every bunk is equipped with a reading light, a designated electrical outlet, and blackout privacy curtains for a comfortable and inspiring stay.
This was my first major woodworking project beyond a single safety course, and honestly, a massive leap in scope. I designed both sets end-to-end in SketchUp, generated cut lists, and hand-selected choice red oak at the lumber yard. The chevron pattern footboards, headboards, and shelves are built from red oak hardwood, with ladder steps inset using dado blade and miter cuts. The bunks came out better than I could have imagined, and the knowledge I gained through the process is genuinely invaluable.
